
Shorebirds Drop Sand Gnats 8-3

SAVANNAH, GA â The Delmarva Shorebirds (24-19) scored four runs in both the fourth and sixth innings en route to a 8-3 victory over the Savannah Sand Gnats (18-24) this afternoon at Historic Grayson Stadium. Starter Ryan Keefer (W, 3-4) picked up the win for the Shorebirds pitching five innings only allowing a run and struck out five. With one out, Sand Gnat starter Nick Long (L, 0-4) walked two men and hit a batter to load the bases for the Shorebirds. Third baseman Rafael Diaz then singled to left field tying the game at 1-1 with the bases still loaded. The Shorebirds would get another run in on a RBI walk to Dustin Yount giving Delmarva a 2-1 lead. Long struck out the next batter, bringing shortstop Bryan Bass to the plate. Bass quickly singled to right field scoring two runs making the score 4-1. Delmarva continued their scoring in the sixth inning on back-to-back home runs by Mike Done and Thomas Joyce. Done's homer was a three run shot to right field giving him two on the year. Joyce's homer was his first of the season and gave the Shorebirds an 8-1 edge. Savannah scored one run in the first on a RBI single to center by Larry Broadway. The Sand Gnats would add their final runs in the seventh on a two-run home run to left field off the bat of Marco Yepez. Yepez was 3 for 5 on the day and his home run was his first of the season. Reggie Fitzpatrick, Jason Conlisk, and Broadway each contributed with two hits apiece for the Sand Gnats. For the Shorebirds, Joyce was 2 for 5. Diaz was 3 for 5 with a run scored and a RBI. The Sand Gnats will play the Shorebirds in the final game of a four game series tomorrow morning for Education Day with the first pitch scheduled for 10:05am. Tomorrow is also Feed Your Face Monday presented by Connect Savannah and I-95. For $9.99 guests can get a reserved seat and all you can eat all night at the main concession stand.
