Shock's Kedra Holland-Corn Retires From The WNBA

Auburn Hills, MI - Detroit Shock guard and two-time WNBA Champion Kedra Holland-Corn announced yesterday evening that she is retiring from the WNBA.
The 5-7 Holland-Corn was a key member of Detroit's 2003 and 2006 Championship teams and a six-year veteran of the league. She retires with career averages of 8.7 points, 2.1 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.35 steals per game, and a career three-point shooting percentage of 34.1 percent.
"Kedra was a great player for the Shock, an even better teammate, and it is fitting that she leaves the WNBA stage a champion," said Shock Head Coach Bill Laimbeer. "Although our fans won't get to see her on the court any more, I know that Kedra will remain a great ambassador for the game and for our league."
Holland-Corn began her pro career in 1997 when she was drafted by the San Jose Lasers with the 15th pick in that year's American Basketball League Draft. After one-plus seasons of competition in the ABL, Holland-Corn was selected by the Sacramento Monarchs in the second round (No. 14 overall) of the 1999 WNBA Draft.
She remained with the Monarchs for four seasons averaging more than 10 points, two assists and two steals during her time in Sacramento. In 2006, she was named to the Monarchs' All-Decade Team.
The Shock acquired Holland-Corn prior to the 2003 season in exchange for Kara Lawson, whom Detroit selected with the fifth overall pick in the 2003 WNBA Draft. She was the Shock's first player off the bench in 2003, and averaged 9.2 points and 1.9 assists while shooting 46.1 percent from the field and 40.3 percent from three-point range.
Following Detroit's 2003 championship run, the Shock traded Holland-Corn to Houston where she spent most of the 2004 season. After sitting out the 2005 campaign, Holland-Corn and the Shock were reunited for another shot at a title when she signed with Detroit as a free agent on Feb. 1, 2006. She played in all 34 regular-season games for the Shock, and was a key contributor off the bench throughout Detroit's second championship season.
Holland-Corn's retirement leaves the Shock with 13 players on its training camp roster, which is attached. Detroit Shock Media Day is scheduled for Monday, April 23 at 2 p.m. ET at the Pistons Practice Facility.
