Spokane Shock News Release
Everett, WA: This game was supposed to be meaningless. The Hawks were eliminated from the playoffs weeks ago, and the Shock had already secured the #2 spot; the only thing that was on the line for either team was pride for this in-state rival that met for the first time in Everett this season.
But, for the Shock it was a game that they felt like they had to win to build momentum going into next week's playoffs.
"This game was important for us to build the kind of momentum we need in the playoffs," DS and Shock veteran Rob Keefe said.
It was their pride and pure determination that propelled the Shock to the 65-38 win over the Hawks tonight that helped maintain their perfect (5-0) record against Everett all-time.
The Shock faced Everett tonight without starting QB Andrico Hines or WR Antwone Savage, both of whom were nursing injuries from last week before heading into the playoffs.
Hines was replaced by Rummell who led a very efficient offense completing 22 of his 26 passes for 204 yards five touchdowns and just one interception.
"Rummell played great tonight, that's why he is on this team," Head Coach Adam Shackleford said. "Andrico needed the rest and now he will be ready to go for the playoffs next week."
Savage's gaudy numbers were replaced by WR Chico Mackey who seemed to do-it-all tonight. Mackey ended the night with 149 all-purpose yards including six touchdowns, three on the ground, and three through the air.
"Without two of our stars all of us had to step up tonight - not just me; Kelvin (Dickens) AB (Anthony Brown), it was a team effort," Mackey said.
The Shock's defense held the lethal Hawk combination of QB Jason Campbell and WR Josh Richie to only two touchdowns tonight thanks in part to heavy pressure that was applied all night by the defensive line. DL Devon Parks had 4.5 tackles and a 15 yard touchdown on a fumble recovery that turned out to be Spokane's final score of the evening.
