SHOCK OVERCOME LIBERTY IN OVER TIME
Deanna Nolan racked up 12 points in overtime to help lead the Shock to a 68-66 home win over the New York Liberty. Nolan contributed a franchise record and career high 34 points in Friday's game. Elaine Powell checked in with 10 points, and Cheryl Ford grabbed 10 rebounds helping the Shock reach a 4-0 start on the young season.
Shock givaways this week
The first 3,000 fans in attendance to see the Shock dribble over the 2004 WNBA Champion Seattle Storm on Wednesday, June 8th will receive a free Deanna Nolan Poster, courtesy of Lewis College. The first 3,000 fans in attendance on Friday, June 10th when the Shock meet the Charlotte Sting will receive a free 2005-06 Detroit Shock Team Calendar, courtesy of Proctor and Gamble.
Five Shock starters on the ballot for the 2005 all-star game
The 2005 All-Star Balloting Program began on Saturday, May 28 to determine the starting players for the WNBA All-Star game. The 65 players included on the ballot represent all 13 WNBA teams. Shock guards Deanna Nolan and Elaine Powell, forwards Swin Cash and Cheryl Ford, and Center Ruth Riley are all in the running for the 2005 All-Star team. A write-in option is also available, allowing fans to choose players not listed on the ballot. Fans can cast their votes by going online to www.WNBA.com. The 2005 WNBA All-Star Game will be hosted by the Connecticut Sun on Saturday July 9 at the Mohegan Sun Arena. The game will be televised nationally on ABC beginning at 4:00 p.m. EDT.
Shock to recognize Livonia foster Parent
The Detroit Shock will honor Sharon Marsh by presenting her with the "My Personal Heroes" Award prior the their home game against the defending WNBA Champions the Seattle Storm on June 8 at 7:30 p.m. Marsh has parented 65 foster children in the past 20 years, and is currently the President of the Western Wayne County Parents of the Visually Impaired. Presenting the award on "Mom and Daughter Night" will be Shock All-Star guard and Flint Native Deanna Nolan and her mother, Virginia Nolan.
