Spokane Shock News Release
Spokane Wa: The Spokane Shock announced today that DL Ray Gant, who signed with the Shock on Oct. 10, 2007, was traded to the South Georgia Wildcat for future considerations. In other Shock news, former Michigan State player David Stanton was added to the 2008 Shock roster.
Gant appeared in the exhibition game against the Fever on March 20, 2008.
At Michigan State, Stanton saw action in 10 of 11 games during the 2005 season, including three starts at defensive line. As a senior, he played in 12 games, had 21 tackles (13 solos and 8 assists), including one quarterback sack.
Prior to his experience at Michigan State, Stanton was a two-year starter at the College of the Canyons in Santa Clarita, Calif. There, he earned all Western-State league honors as a sophomore by making the first team in the Northern Division. He recorded 36 total tackles and helped lead the Cougars to a win at the WSC Northern Division title and the state championship with perfect 14-0 record. As a sophomore, he produced 5.5 tackles for losses, including four sacks.
"Stanton is not only a big, physical player, but he is also very intelligent. He is going to fill a need for the Shock and is going to help our defense a lot," said Head Coach Adam Shackleford.
Stanton was originally signed to a two-day contract and earned a roster spot after an impressive two-day workout with the team.
"Stanton has had two days of practice under his belt. He has been doing everything that we have asked of him and is going to get the opportunity to play right away," Shackleford said.
Stanton is expected to start at defensive line in the game on March 30th against the Green Bay Blizzard. Kick-off is set for 11:30 AM PST with live coverage on the new radio home for the Shock, 101.1 FM.
