SAN JOSE, CA - The Spokane Shock (11-8) fell 55-28 to the San Jose SaberCats (14-5) in the first round of the 2014 AFL Playoffs on Saturday night in the SAP Center.

Shock quarterback Erik Meyer finished the night 24-46 for 312 yards and four touchdowns with three interceptions. Wide receivers Mike Washington and Rashaad Carter hauled in two touchdowns a piece and a combined 193 yards.

After a strong drive to open the game the Shock came away without points following a Meyer interception in the end zone. San Jose scored on their first drive when Nathan Stanley found Dominique Curry for a 13-yard touchdown, giving the SaberCats a 7-0 lead. A turnover on downs from Spokane on their next drive would set up San Jose to extend their lead to 14-0 on a 29-yard touchdown pass from Stanley to Ben Nelson. The first quarter came to a close with Meyer's second interception of the game, this time to SaberCats defensive back Ken Fontenette.

San Jose opened the second quarter of play with another scoring drive, pushing their lead to three scores at 21-0 when Stanley tossed a touchdown pass to Curry. Meyer threw an interception to Fontenette to cut off the Shock's next drive without points. A SaberCats touchdown and an exchange of turnovers closed out the first half with San Jose leading 28-0.

The SaberCats kicked off the second half with a stalled drive that concluded in Nich Pertuit's 25-yard field goal to give San Jose a 31-0 lead. Spokane got on the scoreboard on the next drive when Meyer found Washington on a 5-yard touchdown pass, making the score 31-7 in favor of the SaberCats. Stanley's 17-yard scoring strike to wide receiver Reggie Gray sent San Jose into the final quarter with a 38-7 lead over Spokane.

Spokane scored three times in the final quarter on two touchdown catches by Carter and one scoring pass to Washington, but were matched by two Odie Armstrong rushing touchdowns and one Pertuit field goal from San Jose. Armstrong punched in the final touchdown of the night with under a minute remaining to produce the final score of 55-28.
