Shock Re-Sign Bill Laimbeer

AUBURN HILLS, Mich. - The Detroit Shock announced today that the team has re-signed head coach and general manager Bill Laimbeer to a two-year contract. Per team policy, financial terms of the contract were not disclosed.
"Bill has established himself as a premier professional basketball coach and general manager," said President of Palace Sports & Entertainment, Tom Wilson. "His ability to assemble talent -- both players and coaches -- and inspire his teams to become champions has led to the ultimate prize for the Shock in three of the last six seasons. The Palace is fortunate to have such an impressive leader guiding our WNBA team into the future."
Heading into his eighth season as head coach of the Shock in 2009, Laimbeer has compiled quite the coaching resume.
When Laimbeer took the reigns of the franchise in 2002, he orchestrated a historic worst-to-first turn around helping him earn coach of the year honors in 2003.
In addition to their 2008 WNBA Championship, Laimbeer guided the club to their third consecutive Eastern Conference Championship, at the same time becoming the all-time leader in both post-season and WNBA Finals victories. His six consecutive playoff appearances are tied for second most all-time, and his three WNBA Championships with the Shock (2003, 2006 and 2008), land him just one shy of the record held by Hall of Fame coach Van Chancellor, who guided Houston to the first four WNBA titles.
Since being named head coach on June 19, 2002, Laimbeer has tallied a regular-season record of 136-90.
