Spokane Shock News Release

SPOKANE, WA (March 14, 2013) - The Spokane Shock held their Orange and White scrimmage at the Spokane Arena last Sunday, March 10th at the Spokane Arena. The concept behind holding the scrimmage was to give not only the coaching staff, but also the fans a chance to really look at the team and get an idea of what the season was going to look like before the final roster cuts are made on Sunday, March 17th. This was the first time that the Shock had held a team scrimmage of this capacity and with over 2,750 fans in attendance, all parties involved are hoping that is will be something that will be done in years to come.

"I like the idea of the scrimmage; I think they should do it every year," said Tim Barteni, a season ticket holder and avid Shock fan.

Long- time Shock fan Tommy Sobbing described the game as a good way to help the city get excited for the upcoming season. He said it was nice to see all the players on the field and was impressed with how the defense was looking.

The scrimmage was played much like games will be played in the regular season, four 15 minute quarters with a short half-time, alternating possessions between teams and official referees. As the game was played the quarterbacks were looking very good as they began to get comfortable on the field and really started to form relationships with their receivers. On Erik Meyer and Arvell Nelson's first possessions, each quarterback connected on long passing touchdowns greater than forty yards.

"It's always great to be able to get into the Arena to work on our long throws and give the quarterbacks the opportunity to put some touch on their passes," said Shock Head Coach Andy Olson. "It creates a whole new opportunity for our passing game to work on timing and helps to create the vital connection between quarterbacks and receivers that is so important in Arena Football."

With a chance to get a glimpse of the team this year, one fan is especially looking forward to what he thinks is going to be a competitive this season.

"I like the concept of the preseason scrimmage. The players are looking good; they should be pretty competitive this season," Greg Gormely, first year season ticket holder, said.

The Shock starts off the official season playing at Cleveland, with four away games before coming home to open in Spokane on April 12.
