Spokane Shock News Release

SPOKANE, Washington (August 18, 2015) - The Shock front office released a statement today, laying frame work for upcoming announcements from the team in the coming weeks as the 2015 AFL season comes to an end.

Shock Director of Operations Ryan Eucker said, "On behalf of the Shock organization, I would like to thank our fans, sponsors, and community partners for their support throughout our tenth electrifying season in 2015. I would also like to thank our coaching staff, players, and team operations staff for another outstanding year of Shock football.

Throughout the year, the team fought through injuries and a number of changes within position groups, but battled through those challenges enabling us to make our ninth playoff appearance in ten seasons. We could not be more proud of their efforts and appreciative of their dedication to our organization and our fans.

As the 2015 AFL season comes to an end, we will be making many important decisions concerning our path forward for the 2016 season. There has been much speculation as to what this path will entail. What we can say today is that nothing has been formally decided and we expect to provide more clarity to our fans within the next few weeks.

For several months and particularly in recent interviews, our ownership group has pointed out numerous critical challenges facing the AFL and its member teams. None of these issues were new and in order to create a sustainable league, it is imperative that these issues be dealt with. As many of you are aware, in the last two seasons alone several AFL teams have struggled financially which in turn created additional challenges for the league. Because of this instability and Shock ownership's sincere desire to keep Shock football as a long term civic asset for the greater Spokane area, it would only be prudent to consider all available alternatives. The future of our franchise is being modeled after our ownership group's commitment to our local communities and what we feel is in the best interest of our fans and sponsors. This important objective remains paramount and intact.

Over the next few weeks, we expect to have a press conference to further discuss our expectations related to the 2016 season and provide the best fan base in football a clear path forward."
