December 9, 2014 - Arena Football League (AFL)
Spokane Shock News Release
SPOKANE, Wash. (December 9, 2014) - The Shock have been assigned offensive lineman Alex Monroe and defensive lineman Ronnell Lewis to the 2015 roster.
Monroe (6-5, 315, Bethune-Cookman) joins the Shock for his rookie season as a member of the Arena Football League after completing his collegiate career at Bethune-Cookman University (FL). A four-year starter for the Wildcats, Monroe saw action in more than 500 plays during his junior season as he helped pave the way for Isidore Jackson to gain 1,069 rushing yards, the first time a Wildcat back rushed for over 1,000 yards since 1997. Over the course of his four seasons at Bethune-Cookman, the Wildcats would go on to compete in the FCS Playoffs twice with an overall record of 36-11.
Lewis (6-3, 260, Oklahoma) joins the Shock for his rookie season as a member of the AFL after being drafted by the NFL's Detroit Lions in 2012 where he saw action in eight games and recorded a pair of tackles. During his career as a Sooner, Lewis competed in 34 total contests and started 14 as he recorded 118 total tackles, 20.5 tackles for loss, and 10 sacks.
"We're very excited about each of these player's body of work and to see what they bring to the table in Training Camp," said Shock Head Coach Andy Olson. "Monroe's extensive experience as an edge blocker should allow him to translate very well to the AFL while Lewis' experience as a hybrid linebacker both collegiately and professionally is exactly what we look for in a pass rusher."
