Spokane Shock News Release

The Spokane Shock announced today that QB Matt Gutierrez and WR/DB Tim Pope have been assigned to the 2007 roster by the league office.

Gutierrez (pronounced GA-TERAS), starred at Ft. Lewis College where he was a three-year starter completing over 60% of his passes with 63 career touchdowns and 7,217 yards. Gutierrez, 6'1" 205, also proved to be a duel-threat as a mobile quarterback rushing for 15 touchdowns and 1,154 yards over his four-year career.

"When you look at his film, he has all of the things you are looking for in a QB; he has a quick release, he's very accurate and he has the ability to throw off-balance," Head Coach Adam Shackleford said. "His film was as impressive as any quarterback I've seen in this league."

Pope, 6'3' 210, starred at Presbyterian College where he hauled in 132 receptions, 20 TD's, and 2,044 yards in 38 games. His decorated career was capped off after his senior season when he was selected as the MVP of the Cactus Bowl (an All-Star game for Division II players) after catching six passes for 101 yards.

"Tim is a Kevin Beard type receiver." Shackleford explained. "He's a possession type of receiver with great hands and size."

With today's latest signings, the Shock's roster now stands at 12 players. The Shock will begin their quest to defend the Championship on Saturday, March 31st as they host the Stockton Lightning at the Spokane Arena at Northern Quest Casino Field. Season tickets are on sale now and can be purchased by calling 509 242 7462.
