North Shore Honu News Release
North Shore starter Shinya Nakayama was nearly flawless tonight as the Orix Buffaloes prospect held Waikiki without a run and surrendered a lone hit to help the Honu shut out the BeachBoys, 8-0, at Waipahu's Hans L'Orange Park. Despite the loss, Waikiki (16-18-1) remains a half game ahead of the Honolulu Sharks in the race for the HWB East Division title.
Nakayama (3.12 ERA) improved to 6-2 on the season, and struck out six BeachBoys in the process. North Shore relievers Kevin Roberts and Takashi Kamoshida each tossed two nearly-flawless innings to preserve the shutout, and Kamoshida (1.09 ERA) earned his fifth save of the season.
Brad Corley hit his fourth home run of the season, a solo shot in the fifth inning, while teammate Stephen Chapman drove in a game-high three runs for North Shore. Honu (23-11-1) leadoff man Shintaro Yoshida chipped in two hits with a run scored, and Chris Valaika drove in two insurance runs in the ninth with a single to left field.
Hector Pellot accounted for two thirds of Waikiki's offensive production, as the New York Mets prospect notched two of Waikiki's three hits on the evening. Kyohei Muranaka (3-1, 2.00 ERA) took the loss after allowing two runs on three hits in three innings.
Both squads return to Hans L'Orange Park for the finale of a three-game series tomorrow at 6:30 p.m.
