Lubbock Hawks News Release
The NWBL's Lubbock Hawks roster continues to grow. In addition to Alicia Thompson and Stacy Stephens, Plenette Pierson's WNBA teammate, Shereka Wright is the newest member of the Lubbock Hawks.
Wright is a native of Texas and a 2000 graduate of Copperas Cove High School. Shereka became the 4th Texan to record 3000 points in a high school career. She graduated with 3,269 points, 1,148 rebounds, and 220 blocks.
Shereka went on to Purdue where she continued to be a standout player. As a freshman she was selected to the Big Ten-All Freshman Team and was an NCAA Final Four All Tournament team pick.
During her four years as a Boilermaker, Shereka was named to the Kodak All-District (2001), a Naismith Award finalist (2002, 2003), ESPN The Magazine Forward of the Year finalist (2002), first team All-Big Ten (2002, 2003, 2004), and a Wade trophy finalist (2003).
In Shereka's senior season at Purdue, she ranked third in the Big Ten in points per game, leading her team in points (18.9) and rebounds (6.3), and was named the Most Outstanding Player in the 2003 Big Ten Tournament.
In 2001 Wright was one of only two freshmen to attend the USA Basketball Women's National Team Trials, and was a member of the gold medal 2001 USA World University Games Team.
Shereka was selected by the Detroit Shock in the first round of the 2004 WNBA draft, and later traded to the Phoenix Mercury where she just finished her rookie season.
