Texas Copperheads News Release

Corpus Christi, TX - With 23 seconds to play, Corpus Christi's Ivory McCann picked off a Stephen Wasil pass and weaved through Texas tacklers for a game clinching 31 yard TD return. McCann was recognized by the media as the ADT Defensive Player of the Game. Corpus Christi's 44-30 victory raises their record to 3-3 while Texas falls to 1-6.

With 33 seconds remaining in the 1st half, Sharks QB Fran Johnson found Kenyada Tatum with a 15 yard touchdown toss. The TD would be the first of four on the evening for Tatum. J.D. Williams missed the PAT and the first half ended in a 13-13 tie.

The Sharks took control of the game by scoring the first 17 points of the 2nd half. Tatum, who earned Schutt Offensive Player of the Game honors, scored two 3rd quarter TDs to give the Sharks a 27-13 lead. Johnson found Tatum for a 15 yard score and then Tatum took a pitchout 27 yards down the sideline for his 2nd score of the quarter and 3rd of the evening. The Sharks opened the 4th quarter with a 40 yard J.D. Williams FG.

Finding themselves down 30-13 for the second consecutive week, the Copperheads put together a 17 point run of their own. At the 9:38 mark of the 4th quarter, Armar Watson scored on a 3 yard run. The scoring run was Watson's second of the night. He also scored on a one yard plunge at 1:50 of the 2nd quarter.

On Corpus Christi's ensuing series, Texas' Marcus Bacon scooped up a John Cook fumble and rambled 31 yards for a score to close the gap to 30-27. With 56 seconds remaining, Texas' Nick Gatto connected on a 28 yard FG to tie the game at 30. Gatto also converted on 41 and 38 yard field goals on the night.

With 43 seconds to play, Johnson found Tatum for a 19 yard score. The pass was Johnson's third TD toss of the evening (all to Tatum) and Tatum's fourth score. McCann then picked off Wasil and took it to the end zone for the game clinching score.

Texas' Armar Watson was recognized as JLS Ironman of the game for the 2nd consecutive week. In addition to Watson's two rushing TDs he also accounted for 181 all purpose yards with 6 yards rushing, 67 yards receiving and 108 kick off return yards. On defense Watson tallied 9.5 tackles and broke up 4 passes. Last week Watson collected league honors when he was named the af2 Ironman of the week for his Ironman efforts against the Arkansas Twisters.
