Sharks Survive Stallions' Comeback
March 10, 2011 - Premier Basketball League (PBL)
Rochester RazorSharks News Release
It was like old times for awhile anyways. The Rochester RazorSharks (8-7) jumped on the Kentucky Blue Grass Stallions (5-12) in the first quarter to the tune of a 25 point lead at 37-12. Rochester won by five 118-113. 4106 were on hand at the Blue Cross Arena.
With the victory the Sharks complete a 6-1 homestand and are over 500 for the first time this year. The Stallions lost their fourth straight and ninth in ten.
Rochester shot lights out in the first half hitting 58 percent from the floor and dominating Kentucky. Keith Friel hit three first quarter three-point shots and wound up with 18 points for the night. The Sharks enjoyed a huge edge from long range connecting on 9 of 21 (Friel was 4 for 7). The Stallions were just 1 for 11.
Kentucky kept chipping away at Rochester's lead and outscored the Sharks in each of the final three quarters. The margin was reduced to three when Reginald Delk converted an old-style three point play that made it 110-107.
Jerice Crouch hit the clutch shot as he has all season, a three pointer to make it 113-107 with 33 seconds left. Rochester held on for the five point win.
"Everybody did their job early on," said Coach Rod Baker. "We got up. Ninety-nine times out of a hundred, every team once they get up a big number, starts to relax. It's hard to keep it, and Kentucky has absolutely no quit in them."
Fred Durr scored a career high 26 points. He had increased responsibility with both center Jared Carter and forward Mike Williams battling the flu. Williams didn't play at all. Carter still managed 18 points with a season high 5 blocked shots. Friel and Crouch also scored 18.
For Kentucky, Kenny Jones scored a game high 26 points. He is in contention for the Premier Basketball League's scoring crown.
These same two teams hook up on Sunday as Rochester begins a four game road trip. The Sharks leave town Saturday and won't return for a week.
