Kentucky Bluegrass Stallions at Rochester RazorSharks Game Notes
March 10, 2011 - Premier Basketball League (PBL)
Rochester RazorSharks News Release
This is the third of five meetings between these teams and the first in a home and home series. They play again at Kentucky Sunday.
The RazorSharks (7-7) climbed back to the 500 mark for the first time since they were 2-2. Rochester has won five of its last six, all at home. This game concludes the seven game homestand.
On Sunday the Sharks became just the second team this year to defeat the defending Premier Basketball League champion Lawton-Fort Sill Cavalry (12-2). The emotional 93-91 victory was secured on an inbounds, half court ally-oop pass from Jerice Crouch to Eric Walton with just 3.9 seconds left.
Rochester is one game in the loss column behind Halifax and Saint John. The Rainmen and Mill Rats face each other three more times this season.
The Bluegrass Stallions (5-11) will be playing their second game in three nights. They lost at Quebec 116-103 Tuesday night. The Stallions are 1-7 on the road. 4-4 at home.
Kentucky has lost its last three and eight of their last nine PBL games. That resulted in a coaching change with former University of Pittsburgh star Jaron Brown replacing Jay Shidler.
Kenny Jones averages 19.1 points per game. That ranks second to Quebec's Quinnell Brown who scored 37 against the Stallions Tuesday. Jones has led the Stallions in points 14 times in their 15 games. His .618 field goal percentage leads the PBL.
Of note: Kentucky Coach Brown and Emeka Okafor were named Big East Conference Co-Defensive Players of the Year in 2004. Pitt presents an annual Jaron Brown Pursuit of Excellence Award for academic achievement.
Of note: Kentucky became the third team in the PBL to change coaches this season joining Dayton and Halifax.
Of note: Rochester is one of four PBL teams to keep its head coach. Rod Baker, in his sixth season, is the only coach the Sharks ever had.
Quotable: Rochester's Baker on a possible hangover from the win over LFS Sunday, "That thing was over about ten minutes after it was over. I learned a long time ago never too high and never too low. Then you don't have to worry about it."
