Sharks sign veteran AFL wide receiver Steve Smith

The Corpus Christi Sharks announced today the signing of veteran AFL wide receiver Steve Smith.

Smith, a 5' 9" - 175 lbs WR from Utah St. is a 6 year veteran of the AFL (Arena Football League). He began his professional career in 2001 with the Buffalo Destroyers, and in 6 seasons has totaled 419 receptions 5059 yards and 106 touchdowns. Smith's AFL career also included stints with the Grand Rapids Rampage (2002 - 04), Philadelphia Soul (2005 - 06) and Kansas City Brigade (2006). In both Grand Rapids and Philadelphia, Smith played for current Sharks Head Coach Mike Trigg. In 2005 while with Philadelphia he had one of his most productive seasons with 107 rec. 1443 yards with 28 TD's.

"To have a player like Steve Smith is a rare opportunity; his vast knowledge of the game and experience will be a tremendous boost to our franchise." Sharks Head Coach Mike Trigg said. Trigg added, "He's a proven performer at the highest level of Arena Football and we expect him to be a difference maker for the Sharks." Smith will see his first action in a Corpus Christi Sharks uniform Saturday when the Sharks take on the Arkansas Twisters in Little Rock; kickoff is set for 7:00pm. The Sharks next home game is on Saturday, May 5th when they host the Bossier-Shreveport Battle Wings and former Dallas Cowboys quarterback (and current Battle Wings QB) Quincy Carter. Kickoff will be at 7:05 pm from Radiology Associates Field at the American Bank Center Arena.
