Sharks' Robbins, Berry Earn All-Arena Nods

Jacksonville Sharks News Release
JACKSONVILLE - The ArenaBowl XXIV Champion Jacksonville Sharks and the Arena Football League announced Wednesday that two members of the Sharks' dominant "front four" have earned spots on the 2012 All-Arena Defensive Team. Mac linebacker Aaron Robbins was named to the First-Team All Arena Defense, while defensive lineman Scooter Berry was a Second-Team selection.
Robbins enjoyed the most successful season of his three-year AFL career in 2012, starting all 18 games at the Mac position and finishing second on the team and tied for seventh in the league with 8.5 sacks. Robbins also totaled 10.5 tackles for loss this season, a total that ranked him second on the team, tied for sixth in the league overall and tied for the most among all AFL Mac linebackers.
In addition to his excellent pass-rush numbers, Robbins totaled 24.5 total tackles (18 solo), two forced fumbles, two pass breakups and a quarterback hit. He also notched three fumble recoveries this season, tying him with Berry for the team lead.
The 2012 season was Robbins' second with the Sharks, as he was a midseason addition to the ArenaBowl XXIV Champion squad in 2011. Robbins began his AFL career with the Spokane Shock in 2010 and is the only player to be a member of each of the last two ArenaBowl-winning teams.
A first-year player who played at West Virginia, Berry put together one of the most dominant rookie seasons in the history of the Arena Football League. Berry played in all 18 regular-season games (15 starts), and his total of 13.0 sacks led the team and broke Derrick Summers' previous franchise record of 11.0. He also ranked second in the league and tied the all-time rookie record for sacks, which had been set by Chris Walls in 1987.
Berry also led the team with 12.0 tackles for loss, two blocked kicks, three quarterback hits and five forced fumbles, a total that put him one shy of Summers' franchise record in that category. He finished the season with 30 total tackles (25 solo) and a pass breakup.
Together, Robbins and Berry formed a major part of a Shark pass-rush unit that ranked fifth in the league with a total of 32 sacks during the regular season. The two players combined for three sacks in two different games in 2012, and the team played seven games in which both Robbins and Berry each recorded at least a partial sack. The duo played some of their best football in crunch time, combining for five sacks in Jacksonville's final two regular-season games as the Sharks clinched first a playoff spot and then a South Division title.
Following this year's selections, the Sharks have now had seven players - and five defensive players - selected to All-Arena teams in Jacksonville's three years as a franchise. Under the tutelage of Defensive Coordinator Jake Grande, defensive back Micheaux Robinson was a Second-Team selection in 2010 before making the First-Team in 2011, while Summers was named to the Second-Team in 2011. Assistant Coach Brian Ferguson, whose primary responsibility is coaching the front four, has now produced three All-Arena players in his two years with the Sharks.
