Corpus Christi Sharks News Release
After early turnovers and untimely mistakes found the Corpus Christi Sharks trailing the Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz in the waning seconds of the first half, a 57-yard missed field goal return gave the Sharks a 16-13 halftime lead en route to a 44-26 victory in front of 4,114 fans at the American Bank Center Saturday night.
The Sharks (5-5) reclaimed first place in the Southwest Division of the National Conference with the victory.
After Freddie Rollins 1-yard touchdown run gave Oklahoma City a 26-16 lead with 7:40 remaining in the third quarter the Yard Dawgz (2-8) attempted an onside kick, but touched the ball before it travelled the requisite ten yards, giving the Sharks a first and goal from the Oklahoma City nine yard line and quarterback Fran Johnson connected with Brandon Hussey on a nine yard strike to cut the Sharks deficit to three.
Three plays later Wilbert Martin, a product of Texas A&M-Kingsville and the defensive player of the game, forced a fumble by Yard Dawgz quarterback Ryan Porter and returned it eight yards to give the Sharks the lead for good.
Brandon Hussey led the Sharks with six receptions for 94-yards and two touchdowns.
The Sharks remain at home for a rematch with the Divisional, and regional, rival Austin Wranglers on Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. on Radiology Associates Field inside the American Bank Center.
