Corpus Christi Sharks News Release

With the 44-26 win Saturday night over the Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz, the Sharks move back into first place in the Southwest Division by virtue of holding the Head-to-Head tie breaker over the Austin Wranglers. The Sharks beat the Wranglers in Week 1 by the score of 61-48.

In Southwest Division action this weekend, The Wranglers (5-5) beat the Bossier Shreveport Battle Wings (4-6) 59-51 in Bossier City, and the Texas Copperheads (2-8) shocked the Rio Grande Valley Dorados (4-6) in Hidalgo 47-35.

The weekend's results set up a battle for sole possession of first place in the Southwest Division this coming Saturday night at the American Back Center when the Austin Wranglers come to town.

SHARKS NOTES AND TRENDS:

Ivory McCann brought Sharks fans out of their seats again Saturday night with a 57 yard missed field goal return for a touchdown. It was the second MFG return for a TD this season putting McCann in second place overall in the league behind Lubbock's Kendrick Walker. It was also the 4th time this season that McCann has had a kick return of 57 yards.

Sharks Defensive Lineman Wilbert Martin recovered 2 fumbles Saturday night. The second, Martin was able to pick up and bull his way into the end zone for his first career touchdown. That score put the Sharks up for good earning Martin the ADT Defensive Player of the Game.

QB Fran Johnson has moved into a tie for the team lead in rushing touchdowns with 5. It's a feat that has been surprising to observers since Johnson will be the first to admit he would much rather hand off then carry the ball himself.

Sharks Fullback Booker Jenkins posted a big night with 48 yards on the ground on 7 carries. In 2 games with the sharks Jenkins has 11 carries for 63 yards and a touchdown.

The Sharks Offensive Line lived up to their nickname "The Seawall". The line did not surrender a sack Saturday and is now tied with the Tulsa Talons for fewest sacks allowed (7) in the league.

The Sharks have tried 4 times this season to win Back-to-Back games and have yet to succeed... to take control of the division, that trend needs to be reversed.
