Sharks Gaining Momentum in Worcester

WORCESTER - Worcester Sharks President Michael A. Mudd is proud to announce that the Worcester Sharks saw an 11% attendance increase during the Sharks fifth season of hockey in Worcester during the 2010-11 season.

Now entering their sixth season of American Hockey League action in Worcester, the Sharks are encouraged by the increased fan and corporate support from the central Massachusetts community.

The Sharks ranked 1st in the AHL with a 38% growth in group revenue sales during the 2010-11 season and 2nd in overall total ticket revenue growth with a 22% increase over last season.

In addition, the DCU Center reported seven sellouts (attendance over 5,400) during the 2010-11 Sharks campaign, including the two biggest crowds in Sharks franchise history, with 9,803 fans on January 22 and 8,075 on April 2. The Sharks averaged 4,068 fans during the 40 home dates at the DCU Center this past season; which is an 11% increase over the 2009-10 season.

On average, the AHL saw a 5.5% increase in attendance over the 2009-10 season.

With an average ticket price of just $12.50, the Sharks continue to provide a family friendly and financially responsible form of entertainment in central Massachusetts.

"The Sharks are encouraged and excited about the increase in attendance at Sharks games at the DCU Center this past season," said Mudd. "With the continued support and active engagement from the city of Worcester and the DCU Center, the Sharks are trending closer to where we would like to be as a business. We have great momentum heading into next season and look forward to continue to provide an affordable option for families across central Massachusetts."

The Sharks received continued support from corporate sponsors from 134 local businesses and organizations during the 2010-11 season through season tickets or corporate sponsorships; up from 71 in 2009-10.

The increased fan and corporate support aided the Sharks and Sharks Charities to raise over $100,000 last season for local charities and attend over 300 community events and donate over 15,000 tickets.

Sharks Charities, lead by Chairwoman of Sharks Charities, Ms. Mary DeFeudis, is dedicated to meeting the educational, social and cultural needs of our community and is proud to partner with local organizations, in an effort to enhance the lives of residents throughout Central Massachusetts, with a focus on youth.

The Worcester Sharks remain extremely active during the offseason with over 100 community appearances throughout Central Massachusetts. Worcester Sharks Summer Days presented by Irving Oil, TCG Network Services, and Franklin Sports, includes player and mascot appearances, Sharks Street Brigades, and the SharkHead Shootout.
