Corpus Christi Sharks News Release
Sean McKinney's 25-yard interception return for a touchdown with 6:44 to play in third quarter propelled the Corpus Christi Sharks to a 59-35 victory over the Texas Copperheads at the Berry Center in Houston on Saturday night.
The Sharks went into halftime with a 17-14 lead but penalties and an interception kept the Copperheads (2-10) within striking distance.
Former Sharks wide receiver Gabriel Hatchett's 3-yard touchdown reception on the opening drive of the second half gave the Copperheads a 21-17 lead, but that wouldn't last long.
Just 2:34 later quarterback Fran Johnson connected with Jonathan Graham on a 23-yard touchdown pass, one of four on the night for Johnson, as the Sharks closed the game with a 28-7 run, including a 54-yard kickoff return for a touchdown by Ivory McCann, his fourth of the season.
Johnson finished the game 13 of 20 for 215 with four touchdowns and just one interception. He has thrown ten touchdowns in the Sharks last two games.
Defensive back Dwayne Ijames had two interceptions on his way to earning ADT Defensive Player of the Game honors.
The Sharks will return home on Saturday night to take on the division rival Bossier-Shreveport Battle Wings on Radiology Associates Field inside the American Bank Center. Kickoff is set for 7:05 p.m.
