June 22, 2008 - arenafootball2 (af2) News Release
MONDAY, JUNE 23, 2008 - Freedom Hall (14,500) 7:30 P.M. ET
Week 13 concludes on Monday night when the Louisville Fire host Lexington in the third and final War on I-64 matchup between the two new league in-state rivals. The Fire have earned bragging rights thus far by winning the first two affairs with the Horsemen. Their most recent meeting was in Week 10 where Louisville collected a 61-31 victory. Louisville scored four consecutive touchdowns to close out the game to extend what was once a 33-31 advantage into a 30-point win. Fire QB AARON MARSHALL finished 26-of-33 for 264 yards with four touchdowns. WR RICARDO LENHART caught 12 passes for 151 yards with two touchdowns, while TYMERE ZIMMERMAN had 10 grabs for 74 yards with a score. The Horsemen, who enter this week's game ranked 10th in the latest league coaches poll, are coming off a 40-31 home win against Albany. Lexington led 38-31 with a minute remaining in the game and the Conquest driving after K DOUG DANIELS' field goal attempt was blocked. With the outcome still in doubt, Lexington's COURTNEY WHITE sacked Albany QB Dan Cole in the end zone for a safety to extend the Horsemen advantage to 40-31. Horsemen signal caller RYAN MITCH, playing in just his second game with the team in place of then suspended EDDIE EVISTON, completed 17-of-31 passes for 190 yards with five touchdowns. Three of those scoring strikes went to WR CHAD SPENCER, who finished the game with five catches for 32 yards. JOHN COOPER was the team's leading receiver with five grabs for 82 yards with two TDs. Despite Mitch's solid play of late, expect Lexington to go back to Eviston as their starter after he was activated off team suspension on Thursday. In nine games played, he's helped guide the Horsemen to a 6-3 record with 47 TD passes and over 2,000 yards passing. Lexington's defense is led by DB WILLIAM MULDER with 44.5 tackles, three interceptions and 17 pass breakups. Louisville, who enters the week ranked No. 11 in the latest league coaches poll, endured a tough 34-31 home loss last week against Green Bay. The Blizzard defense stepped up in the fourth quarter to hold off the Fire. FB DEMETRIUS FORNEY had two TD runs to pace Louisville in defeat. DB MATT FORBES also collected his 11th interception of the season (3rd in af2). Forbes is the league's all-time leader in interceptions with 44 for his career. The Fire offense leads the af2 in rushing touchdowns with 31. QB MATT BASSUENER leads the team individually with 16 while Forney has 12. Louisville's receiving corps is paced by LONELL DEWALT with 69 catches for 744 yards and 11 TDs. Even though Louisville has won the first two games against the Horsemen quite handily, expect Lexington to make this third showing a lot closer.
