Daytona Tortugas News Release
[Daytona Beach, FL] The Daytona Cubs are pleased to announce that pitcher Jeff Samardzija will be starting his first full season in professional baseball on "the world's most famous beach." The former Notre Dame two-sport star spent parts of last season with Boise and Peoria.
On January 19, Samardzija made the official announcement that he would forego a possible career in the National Football League to focus on his future with the Chicago Cubs. While at Notre Dame Samardzija was a stand-out receiver on the football field while also impressing on the baseball diamond so much to be taken in the fifth round of the 2006 draft by Chicago.
Samardzija spent much of Spring Training in the Major League camp, which included a face-to-face performance with San Francisco Giants slugger Barry Bonds.
To order your tickets today to see Samardzija and other Daytona stars please call (386) 257-3172. Opening day in Daytona is April 7 when the Cubs host the Brevard County Manatees.
