Snohomish County Explosion News Release
Monroe, WA - Following a 17-hour plane trip and a four hour van trip north from Portland, Oregon the Shanxi Zhongyu team from China suited for their inaugural IBL game. The competition marked the first truly international game for the IBL. The Explosion topped Zhongyu 122-84.
Carrying a slim three point lead, the Explosion slammed the door, allowing only 11 second quarter points by Shanxi. The stifling defense held the Chinese team to 37 percent from the field in the first half and only 1 of 9 from the three point line. Meanwhile the explosion shot a blistering 46 percent en route to a 63-41 halftime lead. Shanxi would never get back in the game as the Explosion maintained the strong defense.
The Explosion played the epitome of a team game, dishing out 28 assists on 50 field goals. Snohomish had five players in double figures led by the 29 of Alex Adediran, recently acquired from the Jazz of Tacoma. Adediran also snared 14 rebounds as the only Explosion player with a double-double. Chris Keller knocked down 22 points with Chris Weakley chipping in 20 points.
The Zhongyu were led by 23 points from Yu Tao. Zhai Jin Shuai added 14 and Zhou Gou Qiang scored 10 as only three players scored in double digits.
