Chill Sweep, Win 4th Straight

May 10, 2008 - International Basketball League (IBL)
Edmonton Chill News Release

Edmonton, AB- The Jazz of Tacoma opened the second game of the weekend series by shooting the lights out and building a 69-46 lead at the half. The Edmonton Chill would simply not be denied their fourth straight win as they stormed back, took the lead in the final minute and emerged victorious 112-111.

The 1307 fans in attendance were kept at bay through the opening 24 minutes as Anton Jones and Lorenzo Rollins were deadly from the outside and helped Tacoma take a five-point lead after the first quarter. They continued from there as the Chill shooters went cold and put up just 17 points in the second quarter, leading to Tacoma's 23-point edge at the midway point.

Coming out of the half, the club caught fire and exploded for 34 points in the third quarter, but more importantly, we saw the Chill flash some defensive muscle and held the Jazz to just 16 points, including twice forcing the Jazz into a shot-clock violation, and cutting the lead to just 5. Lee Scruggs took over for the home-side in the third scoring 17-points including three three-pointers for the 6'11" center.

As the two teams entered the final frame, the up and down action really picked up. The Chill were able to get the game to six a couple of times on layups from Rashaun Broadus and deep jumpers from Stephen Sir and JR Patrick. Still Tacoma continued to answer as Anton Jones' deep touch was able to push the lead back to 10. But, with the clock winding down under two minutes the Chill made a last push and tied the game at 108. The Chill took their first lead since early in the first quarter on a driving layup from Broadus and then forced a bad shot from Tacoma which Stephen Sir was able to gather in under the rim. Sir was then fouled and he walked the length of the floor and calmly knocked down 2 from the charity stripe. The Jazz were able to hit a three with just two seconds left to get to the final score of 112-111, but Teon Knox spotted Lunzaya Nlandu leaking out behind Tacoma's press and got the ball to him and Nlandu dribbled out the final two seconds in the Chill's fourth straight win.

Leading the way for the Chill was Rashaun Broadus`27 points, Broadus also tallied eight rebounds and eight assists. Edmonton got a double-double from Lee Scruggs, 24 points and 13 boards, and three other Chill played scored in double figures. Tacoma got 20 point nights from Anton Jones and Marlin Bailey, while Jujaun Winesberry collected a team-high 15 rebounds.

The Chill (4-2) will be off next week before returning for a weekend series with the Snohomish (Everett, WA) Explosion on May 23rd and 24th.
