Shannon named UIF Special Teams Player of the Week

Evansville BlueCats running back/kick returner Otis Shannon has been chosen as the UIF's Special Teams Player of the Week for his performance against the Tupelo FireAnts in Week 15. Shannon had 3 kick returns against the FireAnts for 86 yards, including one 50 yard kick return for a touchdown in the fourth quarter. Shannon's effort gave him a 29 yard kick return average for the game, and the touchdown is Shannon's third kick return touchdown this season.

Against Tupelo in Week 15 Shannon also rushed 6 times for 26 yards and caught 2 passes for 25 yards and a touchdown.

Shannon ranks among the league leaders in rushing, scoring, and all-purpose yards.

Otis Shannon is a graduate of Cathedral High School in Indianapolis. He currently holds the Indiana high school career rushing record with 7,560 yards in his four years at Cathedral. (1997-2000) His 3,252 yards during the 1999 season ranks as the second best single season in state history. He led his team to back-to-back 4A State Championships in 1998 and 1999.

After the 2000 season, Shannon was honored as "Mr. Football" in the state of Indiana.

Otis played for Harper Junior College in Palatine, Illinois in 2001 and 2002.

This Saturday night, Otis Shannon and the Evansville Bluecats (6-6) will attempt to clinch the first playoff berth in team history against the Tupelo FireAnts (3-10) at Roberts Stadium.

Saturday night's game is the final regular season home game for the 2005 season and will be "Fan Appreciation Night". Kickoff is set for 7:05pm.
