Shake Rattle and Goal; Machine Find a Hole in OT, 2-1

Motor City Metal Jackets News Release

Blaine, Minn. - The Motor City Machine played like absolute monsters to upend the Wenatchee Wild 2-1 in overtime on Trevor John's ringer over the glove side of tender Mathieu Dugas (L'Assomption, PQ).

When push came to shove in the opening games today it was goaltending that prevailed as Zach Hansen (Dexter, Mich.) and Dugas dominated 63:00 of hockey in Blaine. Not much offensively came of the first period until Evan Mosey (Downers Grove, Ill.) found a rebound off one of his line mates to beat Hansen short side for the early 1-0 lead. It was the first power-play opportunity for the Wild as they took care of business but little did they know it would all the scoring they would get.

The Machine put only seven shots on net and the Wild responded with six but captured the first goal of the game.

"We came out slow in the first and jet legged was definitely an affect. Wenatchee came out quick and hard and Zach kept us in the game allowing just one goal," stated head coach Matt Romaniski.

A late power-play that carried over to the second period for the Machine would prove to be ideal as Andy Inderieden (Maple Grove, Minn.) bounced a shot up and over Dugas for the 1-1 tie just: 21 into the stanza. Both teams would exchange scoring chances left and right but nothing came of them as both tenders had eagle-eye vision. The game was so balanced even the crossbars got involved to help out and keep it tied at 1-1 after two periods of hard-hitting action.

"We got an early goal because we talked about getting bodies in front of Duga. We also had alot of back door chance but he was standing on head. This carried over confidence for our boys to eventually win the game," proclaimed Romaniski.

Emotions ran high as things started to open up in the third period when Hansen and Dugas kicked up the tending a notch. Forward Nick Taurence (Trenton, Mich.) and defensemen Ben Danford (Lake Elmo, Mich.) carried the puck beautifully at both ends, demonstarting the leadership needed for this team and league. It would take everything in both teams' power to finish the game in regulation. The sides escaped with a 1-1 tie and overtime loomed in the balance.

Once again the momentum went back and fourth until Inderieden and Bennett Schnieder (Fort Myers, Fla.) brought the rush, gained the line and found John streaking who beat Dugas top shelf glove side for the game winner. The goal would be reviewed but it was good and the Machine would celebrate their first win as a new team.

Inderieden finished with a goal and Hansen got the win with shutting the door numerous times for a total of 19 saves. The Machine square off against Bismarck tomorrow at 12 CST.
