Seventh Time’s a Charm for the Thunder in Win Against Youngstown

Bloomington, IL - In their second meeting ofthe weekend and their seventh of the season, the Bloomington Thunder finallygrabbed a win against the Youngstown Phantoms. They took the lead early in the gameand finished strong with a final score of 4-1.

Three goals were picked up in the first and second periods forBloomington. In the first, Tarek Baker took advantage of theThunder's power play. He walked into the zone and ripped a wrist shot to thetop corner, tallying his first career USHL goal. Ryan Siroky (MiamiUniversity) then picked up his second goal in two games when his shot popped over thehead of goaltender Colin DeAugustine, with the assist going to Ryan Galt(University of Omaha-Nebraska).

Another pair of firsts were grabbed by defensemen Max Gottlieb and Butrus Ghafari(Western Michigan University) in the third period. Gottlieb tallied his firstcareer USHL goal firing a slap shot behind DeAugustine, ending his night andmaking it 3-0. Ghafari was awarded the assist, taking home his first point ofthe season. Chris Birdsall (Boston College) entered the gamereplacing DeAugustine who ended the night with eight saves.

After Siroky's penalty shot on Friday, Youngstown had its turn in thesecond when Kyle Connor (University of Michigan) was taken down in front ofthe Thunder's net. Thunder goalie David Jacobson blocked Connor's shot,keeping the shutout alive, and finishing the game with 22 saves. But Phantom'sforward Lukas Craggs (University of Minnesota) made up for the missed opportunity three minutes later. MaximLetunov (Boston University, St. Louis Blues) grabbed the assist onCraggs first goal of the year.

The second ended with the Thunder up for the second night in a row. Bloomingtonoutshot the opposition 33 to 23 going 1-8 on the power play and shutting outthe Phantoms and their Eastern Conference leading power play on three separateoccasions.

The Thunder held on to the two point lead in the final period. ThePhantoms couldn't get another puck past Jacobson. With :47 left in the period,Baker picked up another goal on the Phantom's empty net with an assist fromSiroky. Jacobson took the first win for Bloomington against Youngstown, with a .957SVPT on the night.

Next home game: Bloomington willhost the Chicago Steel for their 'Welcome Back' students night on Wednesday,November 26th at 7:00 pm at the U.S. Cellular Coliseum.
