West Michigan Whitecaps News Release

For the second straight game, the seventh inning was heavenly for the West Michigan Whitecaps. The Whitecaps, who rallied in the seventh to win on Saturday, scored three runs in the seventh on Sunday afternoon to break a 1-1 tie and went on to defeat the Quad City River Bandits, 4-2, in Iowa. The victory was the fourth straight for the 'Caps and their eighth in ten tries on their current 12-game road trip.

Outfielder Jason Knoedler (ka-NAYD-ler) led off the seventh with his second home run to break the deadlock and give the 'Caps the lead for good. Juan Gonzalez and Brent Clevlen added RBI hits for two more runs and the 'Caps would go on to their tenth win in their last twelve games.

The hit by Gonzalez extended his personal hitting streak to 15 games. It is the longest streak in the league this season and the third longest in franchise history.

'Caps starter Jon Connolly, who leads the league in victories and earned run average, threw 7 1/3 innings while allowing just one earned run to raise his record to 7-0 and his ERA to 0.87. Juan Figueroa closed out his eighth save of the season for West Michigan.

The 'Caps will face the River Bandits again on Monday evening at 8:00 Michigan time. Righthander Matt Pender, who was injured and taken to the hospital his last time out, will go back to the mound for the 'Caps.
