Seven Homers Leads 'Fish to Victory

(York, PA. - July 16, 2012) - The Bridgeport Bluefish (3-1, 34-40) hit a season high seven homers on the teams' way to defeating the York Revolution (0-4, 36-38) by a score of 18-3 at Sovereign Bank Stadium on Monday. Heading into the game, no Bridgeport player hit two homers in a contest; three Bluefish hitters accomplished that feat while scoring a season high in runs. Bridgeport is now 5-6 against York this season.

The Bluefish scored thirteen runs in the first four frames which included a seven run second. The squad added one more run in the sixth and four in the seventh. Bridgeport scored thirteen of the eighteen runs on homers.

Brock Peterson belted a two-run shot to left in the first inning and another two run drive to left in the fourth. He leads the Atlantic League, with 18 shots, and reached base five times while scoring three runs on Monday. Prentice Redman belted two home runs in as many innings in the sixth and seventh. His first was a solo launch to left while his second was a three-run smack to left. Redman collected four hits, scored four times and brought in five runners.

James Simmons contributed a solo homer to leftcenter in the third and a solo shot to right in the seventh. The outfielder now has five with the Bluefish. Simmons scored three times and drove in three on four hits while Luis Lopez smacked a three-run blast to left in the second. The third baseman is 10 hits shy of 2,100 for his professional career. Eddie Rogers came to the plate three times and picked up two hits. Luis Figueroa scored twice and drove in a run while Kennard Jones brought home the only other runner of the night with a single in the second.

Bridgeport starter, Gilbert De La Vara (4-5), earned the win as the southpaw delivered six innings of three run, seven hit, two walk and five strikeout baseball. Kyle Zaleski completed two scoreless frames on two hits and one walk out of the bullpen. Julio DePaula gave up one hit and fanned one in a scoreless ninth inning.

York hurler, Matt Chico (1-3), suffered the loss as the southpaw starter surrendered seven runs on eight hits and struck out one in one-and-a-third innings. Five relievers combined to throw the rest of the game. Bridgeport produced eleven runs, ten hits, four walks, and nine strikeouts against York's bullpen.

Bridgeport continues a four game series against the York Revolution on Tuesday. First pitch is slated for 6:30 PM. Bridgeport will send righthanded pitcher, Chris Hayes (0-2, 4.73 ERA), to the hill against York southpaw starter Chris Waters (1-2, 4.08 ERA).
