Bluefish Hand Revs Roughest Defeat Of Season

The Bridgeport Bluefish jumped to a massive early lead and pounded seven home runs to hand the York Revolution their most lopsided loss of the season, 18-3 at Sovereign Bank Stadium on Monday evening. The Revs see their longest losing streak of the season reach six consecutive games, falling to 0-4 in the second half. The Revs will aim to right the ship in Tuesday's game back in York at 6:30 p.m.
Prentice Redman had the biggest night offensively for the Bluefish going 4-for-6 with a pair of homers, a double, five RBI, and four runs scored. Brock Peterson also cracked two long balls and reached base five times, as did James Simmons. It marked the first time that three opposing players have hit two home runs in the same game against the Revs, as four players have now done it against York in the last two days. The seven home runs were the most ever allowed in one game by the Revs.
Peterson handed the Bluefish a quick first inning lead with a two-run homer to left field, and Bridgeport scored seven more times in the second, turning it into a blowout early in the contest. Simmons drove in the first run in the monster inning by way of an infield single, and ninth place hitter Luis Figueroa followed with an RBI double off the left field wall. Kennard Jones then singled to left to plate another run, and Luis Lopez finished off the inning with a three-run homer to left.
Simmons added his first of two home runs on the night in the third, a solo shot to left-center with one out in the inning, before Redman drove home another run on a fourth inning double, and Peterson nailed another two-run homer to left-center. It gave Bridgeport a 13-0 lead in the fourth before the Revs were able to get on the scoreboard.
York scored its first run in the fifth inning on an RBI double down the right field line by Jeff Fiorentino, his first of two doubles in a 3-for-5 night.
Bridgeport answered back as Redman drove another homer, a solo shot down the left field line leading off the sixth.
The Revs plated two runs in the bottom of the sixth, scoring on an RBI triple to deep center by Chris Nowak on a ball that Simmons lost sight of in the sky, and on an RBI fielder's choice by Danny Gonzalez.
The Bluefish put together the final outburst of the night in the seventh, scoring four times on a solo homer to right by Simmons, and a three-run homer to left-center by Redman.
The 18 runs allowed tied the most given up in a single game in Revs history, while the 15-run margin of defeat also matched the largest the Revs have ever endured.
Bluefish starter Gilbert De La Vara (4-5) used 120 pitches to complete six innings, earning his first win in four starts this season against York. He allowed seven hits and three runs, while walking two and striking out five.
Revs starter Matt Chico (1-3) suffered the loss, charged with seven of the runs on eight hits in just 1.1 innings.
The Revs will look to rebound on Tuesday night at 6:30 p.m. when lefty Chris Waters (1-2, 4.08) faces Bridgeport right-hander Chris Hayes (0-2, 4.73).
