SECAUCUS, N.J. (November 7, 2008)- On November 3, New York Red Bull Seth Stammler was among the honorees at the Starlight Children's Foundation 19th Annual Celebrity Sports Auction, held at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
Stammler was among six individuals recognized as "Shining Stars" for their work with children's charities. The other honorees were New York Giants David Diehl and Justin Tuck, New Jersey Net Devin Harris, New York Ranger Colton Orr, and Olympic Gold Medal Winning Swimmer Cullen Jones.
Already this season, Stammler has been honored as the Red Bulls' USSF Humanitarian of the Year (an award he also received last year), and with the Heart of the Bull Award by RagingBullNation, a Red Bulls Supporters Club.
An active humanitarian, the five-year Red Bull veteran founded the Sporting Chance Foundation (www.sportingchancefoudation.org) after he went on a six-day service trip to Haiti with Grammy Award-winning musician Wyclef Jean and his charitable organization Yele Haiti in Nov. 2006. SCF helps to provide clean water wells and educational programs to children in Haiti. He has also worked with Athletes for Charity, participated in Dick's Sporting Goods "Shop with a Jock" and has made regular visits to patients at the Hackensack Medical Center.
Starlight (www.starlight-newyork.com) reaches more than 275,000 children each year in the tri-state area who suffer from a wide range of critical, chronic or life-threatening illnesses, including physical disabilities and severe injuries. Seeking to address the any challenges seriously ill children and their families face, Starlight offers an array of in-hospital, outpatient, school and home-based programs and services to children and families during the course of an illness and during recovery. Starlight's programs are designed to restore some of the laughter and happiness that a serious illness takes away from children and allow them to experience some of the simple joys of childhood.
