Senjem named batter of the week for second time

DURHAM, NC -- Sportsticker, the Can-Am League's official statistician, has selected Brockton DH/OF Guye Senjem and Quebec RHP Gabe Ribas as Batter and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, for the week of July 31-August 6.

This is the second time this season Senjem has been selected as a Player of the Week (June 5-June 11). In seven games, he accumulated a batting average of .370 (10-for-27) with 3 HR, 11 RBI, five runs scored, and a slugging percentage of .741. Thursday, the 31-year-old resident of Kenyan, MN, went 2-for-3 with a run scored, three RBI and a home run in a 5-3 victory against the Quebec Capitales. Currently this season, Senjem is tied for second in the league with 11 home runs and 4th in the Can-Am with 43 RBI.

During his 10-year professional career, Senjem played over four seasons in the Cincinnati Reds organization playing for Clinton, Mudville, Stockton, and Chattanooga. He has also had a stint in the Colorado Rockies organization along with the St. Paul Saints and Catskill Cougars. Last season for his current team, the Brockton Rox, Senjem hit .288 with 11 HR and 43 RBI.

Ribas had a great week for the Capitales. In his two starts this week, Ribas compiled a record of 2-0 with a 1.59 ERA and had 15 strikeouts in 17 innings pitched. For the season, the Brunswick, ME resident is tied for second in the league with seven wins and second overall with 78 strikeouts and 97 innings pitched.

Ribas was a 14th round selection of the San Diego Padres in the 2002 draft. The 26-year-old played in three seasons with the Padres farm system reaching Double A Mobile in the latter part of 2004. Last season, Ribas pitched for his current team, the Quebec Capitales, and also the Clearwater Threshers of the Florida State League where he had a combined record of 4-1 with an earned run average of 3.17.
