Senators Take Game One

Jackson, MS; July 5, 2003 – The Jackson Senators came out and took one from the Springfield/Ozark Mt. Ducks Saturday night, winning 11-3. The Senators jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the bottom of the first, when starter Billy Coleman (2-2) issued seven walks and one hit, a three run double from Vernon Spearman. Michel Perez (1-0) went six innings in a spot start, giving up five hits and three runs in picking up the win. Although the Senators got the win, they were only able grab four hits, with Vernon Spearman going 2-5 with one run scored and driving in three runs. First baseman, Josh Tranum went 1-3 with his first home run since coming to Jackson. The win helped Jackson to keep pace with the Ft. Worth Cats, as they ran their second half record to 3-2 and over all record to 34-19. The Mt. Ducks meanwhile fell to 2-3 on the 2nd half and 25-28 on the season. Next home game: Will take place on Sunday, July 6, 2003, as it will be "Clarion-Ledger Family Day," with an opportunity for fans to come on the field prior to the game to get photos and autographs. After the game the Senators will build a 150' ice cream sundae` on the field, thanks to Angel Food Ice Cream & Brookshire's. Game time is set for 6:05 p.m. with the gates opening at 5:00 p.m.
