Binghamton Senators News Release

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - April 14, 2009) - Ottawa Senators general manager Bryan Murray announced today the club has signed right-winger Ryan Shannon to a one-year contract.

Shannon appeared in 35 games for the Senators this season, posting National Hockey League career highs with eight goals and 12 assists. He recorded five multi-point games, including his first career two-goal game on Feb. 17 in Ottawa's 3-2 overtime loss at Colorado.

In 36 games with the American Hockey League's Binghamton Senators, Shannon scored 10 goals and added 25 assists. He has also accumulated 16 penalty minutes while posting a +5 ranking.

The native of Darien, Conn., was acquired from the Vancouver Canucks in exchange for defenceman Lawrence Nycholat on Sept. 2, 2008. A Stanley Cup winner with the Anaheim Ducks in 2007, he split the 2007-08 campaign between Vancouver and its AHL affiliate, the Manitoba Moose. The 26-year-old recorded five goals and 13 points in 27 games with the Canucks. He joined Vancouver on June 23, 2007, following a trade with the Anaheim Ducks for Jason King and future considerations.

Following a four-year career at Boston College, where he collected 150 points (51 goals, 99 assists) in 71 season games, Shannon signed as a free agent with Anaheim on Nov. 28, 2005. He stayed with the Ducks organization for the 2005-06 and 2006-07 seasons, helping them win the franchise's first Stanley Cup in 2007. In 53 regular-season games with Anaheim, all in 2006-07, he scored twice, had nine assists and 10 penalty minutes. During the Ducks' Stanley Cup run, Shannon had six penalty minutes through 11 games in the first three series.
