Senators Assign Spezza, Vermette and Volchenkov to Binghamton; Hasek also to Attend B-Sens' Camp

OTTAWA - The Ottawa Senators today assigned defenseman Anton Volchenkov and forwards Jason Spezza and Antoine Vermette to the Club's American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate in Binghamton, NY. It was also announced today by Ottawa general manager John Muckler that goaltender Dominik Hasek will attend B-Sens' training camp for two weeks beginning on Su nday,Sept.26th.

Ottawa announced the signing of Hasek to a multi-year deal on July 6, 2004. During his distinguished NHL career, he has won six Vezina Trophies as the best goaltender in the league and two Hart Trophies as the player most valuable to his team. Hasek won his first Stanley Cup as a member of the Detroit Red Wings in 2002.

Hasek has also achieved great success at the international level where he has represented his native Czech Republic at three Olympic Games leading his nation to the gold medal at the 1998 Olympics.

Spezza played 43 regular season games with Binghamton in 2002-2003 registering 22 goals and 32 assists for 54 points. He became a full-time National Hockey League player last season and tallied 22 goals and 33 assists for 55 points in 78 regular season games with Ottawa.

During his AHL stint he accumulated many honors including a selection to the AHL All-Star Classic where he played on Team Canada.

Vermette participated in 57 games last season for Ottawa scoring 7 goals and 7 assists for 14 points. As a rookie with Binghamton in 2002-2003, Vermette won the Binghamton Senators Rookie of the Year award and the Rocco J. Testani Star of the Year award. He led the B-Sens in goals and scoring that season (34 + 28 = 62) and was the top rookie goal-scorer in the AHL.

Volchenkov made the Ottawa roster following rookie camp in 2002. The former first round draft pick has played in 76 regular season NHL games registering 4 goals and 15 assists for 19 points.

The Binghamton Senators' training camp opens on Sunday, Sept. 26 with medicals and physicals while on-ice sessions begin on M onday,Sept.27.The club opens its five-game pre-season schedule on Saturday, Oct. 2, when they play host to the Syracuse Crunch at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena.

Binghamton will open the 2004-05 regular season on the road at Albany on Oct. 15 before returning home the next night for a 7:05 p.m. home opener against Syracuse at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena.

Season tickets for the 2004-05 campaign are now on sale at the Sens' executive office – 3rd floor of the arena. To purchase 2004-05 season tickets, the Sens' office is open during the summer months from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. and can be reached by calling 722-SENS (7367).
