SEHL Announces Suspensions & Fines for Cape Fear & Winston-Salem

February 18, 2004 - South East Hockey League (SEHL) News Release


The South East Hockey League has announced the results of the investigation of the events which occurred in the game on February 14th, Winston-Salem @ Cape Fear. The altercation that occurred at the 5:25 mark of the third period involved players from both teams. The following disciplinary actions have been assessed after a complete review of the game tape, photographs, the referee’s game report, and conversations with both team’s coaches:

Cape Fear Fire Antz:

*Goaltender Kevin Fines: a three-game suspension under rules 56f, 41f, 52a, and 33a, plus an undisclosed fine. His suspension will be served on 2/20, 2/21, and 2/22.

*Ryan Kiley: a five-game suspension under rules 56f, 41f, 52a, and 33a, plus an undisclosed fine. Kiley’s suspension will be served on 2/20, 3/5, 3/7, 3/19, and 3/20, the last four games against Winston-Salem.

*Aaron Shrieves: an eight-game suspension under rules 41f, 43a, 76 III, and 33a, plus an undisclosed fine. Shrieves’ suspension will be served on 2/20, 2/21, 2/22, 2/25, 3/5, 3/7, 3/19, and 3/20, the last four games against Winston-Salem.

*Matt Shannon: a three-game suspension under rule 72c, plus an undisclosed fine. Shannon’s suspension will be served on 2/22, 2/25, and 2/27.

*Rob Vessio: a one-game suspension under rule 72d , plus an undisclosed fine. Vessio’s suspension will be served on 2/21.

*Coach Scott Rex: an undisclosed fine under rule 72u.

*Cape Fear Team Fine: an undisclosed fine under rule 56e.

Winston-Salem T-Birds

*Hunter Lahache: a four-game suspension under rules 27b, 41f, and 76III, plus an undisclosed fine. Lahache ‘s suspension will be served on 3/5, 3/7, 3/19, and 3/20, all against Cape Fear.

*Winston-Salem Team Fine: an undisclosed fine under rule 56e.

“The South East Hockey League cannot condone the activities which took place on the ice in Fayetteville last Saturday night,” said Ron Hansis, SEHL V.P. of Hockey Operations. “As we head into the final five weeks of the regular season, players need to keep under control with playoff spots still on the line.”
