Lewiston MAINEiacs News Release

Lewiston, ME (QMJHL) - For the second night in a row, the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies found out just how powerful the Lewiston MAINEiacs' offense can be. Lewiston lit the lamp six times, giving them 19 goals in three games on the week. Michael Chaput led the attack with his second straight two-goal effort, as the MAINEiacs picked up a 6-1 win in front of 2,076 fans at the Androscoggin Bank Colisee.

Special teams were the difference in the contest, with the MAINEiacs taking control early. On their first power play of the evening, Olivier Dame-Malka found Sam Carrier in the left circle. Carrier proceeded to fire a one-timer off of the water bottle for the game's opening goal. Less than five minutes later, Lewiston used the other special team to go ahead by two. Etienne Brodeur picked up the puck on the right side of the ice, sped the other way, and picked the top corner for his sixth shorthanded marker of the season.

41 seconds into the middle frame, the home team struck again. Goaltender Jeffrey Noonan flipped the puck forward, only to find Michael Chaput's glove. Chaput brought the puck down to his stick, before easily beating the recovering netminder with a power play goal. Five minutes into the third period, the power play did the job again, as Chaput scored his second of the game, jamming home the rebound of Matt Bissonnette's initial shot, extending the lead to four.

The Huskies broke Nicholas Champion's shutout bid at the 8:43 mark of the third, as Jason Houde scored off of a bank shot from behind the cage. However, Lewiston was quick to respond, needing just 22 seconds to regain their four-goal advantage. Jess Tanguy finished off a give-and-go with Etienne Brodeur, beating Noonan through the legs. With 8:50 left in the contest, Cameron Critchlow completed the scoring, picking the top corner on the glove side.

Nicholas Champion picked up the win, making 22 saves on 23 shots for the MAINEiacs. Jeffrey Noonan suffered the loss for Rouyn-Noranda, despite a 35-save effort on 41 shots.

The MAINEiacs have now won three of four games on their current homestand, which finishes on Thursday night with a 7:00 face-off against the Halifax Mooseheads.
