Rockford Thunder News Release
ROCKFORD, Ill. - Rockford pitcher Serena Settlemier did it all on Thursday night at Sportscore One in the Thunder's 8-2 win over the Chicago Bandits. The win was Rockford's third straight to begin the season.
The former University of Kansas standout pitched her way to a victory and provided plenty of offense at the plate, as she connected for her first home run of the season.
In the circle Settlemier started slow, allowing a first inning and two base hits, but she settled in nicely the rest of the way. She allowed just two more hits all evening long and one additional run in the top of the 6th inning.
For the game, Settlemier finished with four hits allowed, two earned runs, two walks and three strikeouts.
Offensively, her second inning home run came in the middle of a huge six run inning. In the inning the Thunder sent nine batters to the plate. Three reached safely via the base hit, three walked and there was one fielder's choice.
Jackie Wong, playing in just her third professional game, went 2-for-2 at the plate with a run scored and an RBI. Kristen Zaleski was again solid for Rockford. On Thursday night she was 1-for-2 at the plate with two runs scored and two walks, including her second intentional walk of the season.
If Rockford is going to sweep the Bandits they will have to more than likely do it against one of the top pitchers in the world. Jennie Finch is expected to pitch for the Bandits. In game one of the series she took the loss in the 12-inning game, but she did strike out 17 Thunder hitters.
Game two winner Abbie Sims is expected to start in the circle for the Thunder.
