Saint Louis FC News Release
ST. LOUIS - New York Red Bulls II scored three second-half goals en route to a 4-1 victory over Saint Louis FC Saturday night at World Wide Technology Soccer Park.
Saint Louis FC is now 3-5-5 (14 pts.) on the season and is 1-4-3 in league games at home. New York improved to 6-5-4 (22 pts) with the win.
"It's frustrating," STL FC Head Coach Dale Schilly said. "We could've sat in with the game at 2-1, but with a great crowd and support from the fans, we wanted to push forward to at least get a draw. They get two quick goals on us and, just like that, it's 4-1. It's tough."
New York got out to a quick lead in the 8th minute, as Marius Obekop ran on to a through ball from Leo Stolz and beat goalkeeper Mark Pais. It was the 7th straight game in which STL FC's opponent scored first.
The Red Bulls took the 1-0 lead into halftime and doubled their lead early in the second half, as substitute Konrad Plewa rifled a half-volley past Pais from 20 yards.
STL FC pulled one back just three minutes later, as Jacob Bushue got to the end line and played a low ball across goal that Jermie Lynch turned in from close range. It was Lynch's fourth goal in USL competition this season.
The hosts pushed for an equalizer but were caught out late on and New York capitalized with a pair of insurance goals from Franklin Castellanos and Plewa in the final ten minutes of regulation.
"We have the players that can win these types of games," Bushue said. "We just have to figure some things out in the attacking third and start putting these games away."
Saint Louis FC will now go on the road for its first two-game roadtrip of the season. STL FC will face Wilmington Hammerheads FC on Wednesday night before traveling to play Charlotte Independence next Saturday.
