Kansas City Comets News Release

Kansas City, MO - What looked like a game that the Comets had well in hand at the end of the first half quickly turned in Omaha's favor as the expansion Vipers scored 10 unanswered points in the second half to win 14-10 in front of an announced crowd of 4,159.

The Vipers started the scoring early at 1:43 mark in the first quarter with a 2-point goal by Chile Farias. The Comets would answer later in the quarter with an unassisted 3-point goal at the 12:44 mark by Leo Gibson that ricocheted into the net off a Viper defender. At the end of the first period, the Comets lead 3-2.

After a quiet first half of the 2nd quarter by both teams, the Vipers' Paulinho Le Petit scored a 2-pointer at the 7:44 mark. The Comets came back with a flurry of goals, starting with a 3-point power-play goal by Geison Moura at the 9:09 mark. Two minutes later, Vahid Assadpour scored his second goal of the season with an assist from Byron Alvarez. With 37 seconds left in the first half, the Comets went up by a 10-4 halftime score after a nifty goal by Bryon Alvarez, assisted by Geison Moura.

The second half belonged entirely to the Vipers, who held the Comets scoreless for the final 30 minutes of the game. Led by Chili Farias' 2 goals, the Vipers scored the final 10 points of the game to finish off their co-expansion mates.

"This loss really hurts, especially since we had such a nice lead and so much momentum going into the second half," said Comets head coach, Kim Roentved. "The good thing is, we get these guys again in two days. We'll regroup and hopefully we can spoil their home opener on Sunday."

The Comets next game is at 3:05 p.m. on Sunday, November 21st in Omaha against these same Vipers. The Comets next home game at the Independence Events Center is on Sunday, December 19th against the expansion Chicago Riot at 3:10 p.m.
