Sebastian Cossa and Team Canada Capture Gold at 2022 IIHF World Junior Championship

Edmonton, AB - Edmonton Oil Kings goaltender Sebastian Cossa and Team Canada captured the gold medal at the 2022 IIHF World Junior Championship this past weekend with a thrilling 3-2 overtime win over Team Finland.

For the tournament, Cossa won his only appearance in the Canadian crease after stopping 22 of the 24 shots he faced in Canada's 5-2 tournament opening win over Team Latvia.

He becomes the first Oil Kings player to win a gold medal at the World Junior Championship. Former Oil King forward Curtis Lazar captained Canada to a gold medal at the tournament in 2015 while a member of the Ottawa Senators, former Head Athletic Therapist Brian Cheeseman won a gold medal as a member of Team Canada's staff at the 2018 tournament and Dr. Ed Berdusco, the Oil Kings team doctor, nabbed a gold medal in 2020 with Team Canada.

Oil Kings forward Jakub Demek represented Team Slovakia at this year's tournament, appearing in four games and recording one assist while forward Luca Hauf suited up in two games for Team Germany.

Both Demek and Hauf are eligible to play at the 2023 IIHF World Junior Championship in Halifax, NS and Moncton, NB.
