Waterloo Black Hawks News Release
Waterloo, Iowa - As Waterloo Black Hawks players gather for the 2021/22 season, prospect Mason McCormick has announced his commitment to the United States Air Force Academy next fall.
The 20-year-old forward from Verona, Wisconsin brings three seasons of junior hockey experience as he bids for a place on the Hawks' roster. In 2018/19, McCormick was a member of the Dubuque Fighting Saints, appearing in 26 regular season games and four Clark Cup playoff contests. He recorded his first USHL goal versus the Omaha Lancers on October 13th, and finished the slate with an even plus/minus differential.
Over the last two seasons, McCormack has played in the North American Hockey League. Skating for the Austin Bruins, Springfield Jr. Blues, and Shreveport Mudbugs, he had 81 regular season games and 10 playoff appearances to his credit. During the regular slate, he produced 11 goals and 27 assists. McCormick's 174 penalty minutes for the Mudbugs in 2020/21 ranked third in the NAHL.
Waterloo acquired McCormick during the 15th round of the USHL Phase II Draft this spring.
Max Edson was the last former Black Hawk to become a cadet, advancing to the Air Force Academy following his time in Waterloo during the 2011/12 season.
