Season opener set for May 21; home opener May 26

LOVES PARK, Ill. - The Rockford RiverHawks' eight season in the Stateline will start on May 21 and their fourth home opener at Road Ranger Stadium will be on May 26.
The RiverHawks announced their 2009 Frontier League schedule on Monday. The team will start the season on the road for the sixth time in seven years. Rockford will visit two-time defending Frontier League champion Windy City in a season-opening, four-game series. May 21-24.
The home opener, scheduled for 7:05 p.m. May 26, is against the Midwest Sliders of Ypsilanti. The RiverHawks will also host Avon in their first homestand of the season.
In addition, the RiverHawks will host the Frontier League All-Star Game at 7:05 p.m. on July 15.
Scheduled gametimes are 7:05 p.m. Monday-Saturday, 6:05 p.m. Sunday. Most makeup doubleheaders would be scheduled for one hour prior to normal starting time.
Single-game seats are not yet available. The only way to guarantee seats for these premium events is by purchasing a full or partial season-ticket plan. Plans start at just $75.
The RiverHawks are scheduled to play 48 of their 96 games at home. They do not have a homestand nor a road trip of more than six games. The final stretch of the season provides a favorable schedule. Rockford is scheduled to play 18 of 27 at home in August and is back home for the final series of the season, Sept. 4-6 against the ThunderBolts.
In the Frontier League's unbalanced schedule, they'll play West Division rivals Evansville, Gateway, River City, Southern Illinois and Windy City 12 times each. They have six scheduled meetings against each of the East Division teams - Avon, Florence, Kalamazoo, Traverse City, Washington and Ypsilanti. Avon is the relocated Chillicothe franchise. Ypsilanti is the new home of the formerly traveling Sliders.
The RiverHawks are members of the Frontier League, a 12-team independent professional baseball league that will play its 17th season in 2009. The RiverHawks will begin their eighth season in May and host the 2009 Frontier League All-Star Game at 7:05 p.m. on July 15.
