CINCINNATI, OH --- Sean Okoli was voted the Most Valuable Player as announced by the United Soccer League today, capping a week of USL post-season awards.
"I'm very happy to win this award," said Okoli. "I take pride in pushing myself to be one of the best on the pitch so I'm happy that this award reflects all the hard work I put in," said Okoli. "I want to thank FC Cincinnati and the fans for all the support throughout the year and a special thanks to my teammates, the most talented group of guys in the league without a doubt."
Okoli, the winner of the Golden Boot and a member of the USL first-team, led the league in goals scored with 16 and topped all players with 35 points. Okoli recorded three, two-goal fixtures including posting a brace twice against FC Montreal.
The forward claimed the Golden Boot with a penalty kick in the final regular-season game at Pittsburgh Riverhounds. He added an assist in the quarterfinal loss against Charleston Battery to end the inaugural season with at least a point in five of the last seven matches.
He was voted to the USL Team of the Week five times in the 2016 campaign and scored FCC's first-ever goal at Nippert Stadium in the home opener against Charlotte Independence. That goal landed the Federal Way, Wash. native in Sports Center's Top 10 in the No. 4 spot.
Okoli's award bookends the week for FCC with Mitch Hildebrandt being named the Goalkeeper of the Year Monday.
