Seals wrap up season

April 5, 2004 - SPHL (SPHL)
Florida Seals News Release

Off Season Begins: The Orlando Seals have concluded their 2003-04 season, wrapping up their first year in WHA2. The Seals finished with their second consecutive winning season with a record of 27-25-5 for 59 points in 57 games and a .518 winning percentage. Because the WHA2 based it's playoff positions on winning percentage, the Seals did not qualify for the playoffs, with the fifth best win percentage.

Week In Review: The Seals made a dramatic run at the final playoff spot, needing to win four straight games the final weekend of the season, and got halfway there. The Seals beat Miami 8-4 on Thursday to end a five game losing streak. The next night, the Seals won in Macon, 4-1, keeping their playoff hopes alive. On Saturday, the Seals scored in the first 30 seconds and led Jacksonville 2-1 after the first period, but eventually fell 6-4 with the final goal being scored into an empty net. With the playoffs gone by the wayside, the Seals lost 6-3 to Macon, ending the season.

Super Sniper: Right winger B.J. Stephens ended the season with a flourish. He had five goals in the final four games, giving him 39 goals for the season. Stephens finished the year as the top goal scorer in WHA2.

Team Leaders: Along with Stephens leading the Seals in goals (39) here are other team leaders in various categories: Assists Stephens (43); Points Stephens (82); Penalty Minutes Ryan Anderson (223); Plus Minus Anderson (+14); Power Play Goals Jason Elders (10); Shorthanded Goals Stephens and Elders (2); Game Winning Goals Stephens (8); Shots Elders (275); Goalie Wins David Goverde (20); Goals Against Average Mike Correia (2.88); Save Percentage Correia (.910)
