Jacksonville Barracudas News Release

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville Barracudas claimed their first prize of the season last Saturday night when they were presented the Canadian Club/President's Cup Trophy for regular season champions. Beginning Tuesday night, their quest for the WHA2 Championship and their first round opponent the Miami Manatees.

The Manatees are the only team in the WHA2 to hold a winning record over the Barracudas this season (5-6-0). The Manatees also handed the Cudas two of their four losses at home this season (4-2-0). This is a different Manatee team though as they are without Oak Hewer, Eric Perricone, Tom Kotsopolos, and Greg LeColst. They are also missing both starting goaltenders tandem of Sean Weaver and Mark Gowan. Together they frustrated the Cudas with a 3.44 goals against average and a .907 save percentage.

The Barracudas will be without Derek Toninato and Brandon Snee for the play-offs. Both recently had surgery and are on season-ending injured reserve. The Barracudas have added Steve MacIntyre and Mike Wirll to the active roster. Both are property of the New York Rangers and saw time with the Barracudas this season. To make room for MacIntyre and Wirll, the Cudas released center Jason Sangiuliano and moved defenseman Dan Pszenyczny to the practice squad.

Wirll played in 17 games with the Cudas scoring 10 goals. He spent most of the season with Charlotte of the ECHL where he played in 49 games with the Checkers picking up 29 points (11g-18a).

MacIntyre played 61 games with Charlotte picking up 217 penalty minutes. He also played three games with Hartford of the American Hockey League.

Game one of the first round of the WHA2 is a best two out of three and it begins on Tuesday night at the Veteran's Memorial Arena. Game two will be Wednesday at the Arena and the Cudas will host game three, if necessary on Thursday. Face-off times for all round one games is 7:05pm.

Great seats still remain and tickets are available at the Arena Box Office and all Ticketmaster locations. Group and corporate ticket packages are available only through the Barracudas office by calling 904-367-1-ICE!
