Florida Seals News Release
Orlando â Jason Elders netted a hat trick as the Seals snapped an 8-game losing streak Thursday night with an 8-5 victory over the Lakeland Loggerheads in the highest output of the season for Orlando.
The Seals came out strong in the first period, ripping 18 shots on goaltender Carl Poissant. Elders put the Seals on the board 4 minutes, 42 seconds into the game. Elders received the pass from Jerry Keefe on the right wing side and redirected it into the open net for a 1-0 lead.
The Seals added another on the man advantage as Jerry Keefe wristed a shot through the legs of Poissant for a 2-0 lead.
Lakeland dominated the first half of the second period, notching three straight goals to put the Loggerheads up by a 3-2 margin. Jacek Wilk, Joe Seroski, and Chris Harper had the goals for the Loggerheads.
B.J. Stephens got the go-ahead goal late in the second period. Stephens received the outlet pass from Nick Cammarata to break cleanly into the Lakeland zone. The crafty winger then faked the low shot to draw Poissant to the ice only to lift the puck up and under the crossbar for his 30th goal of the season and a tie for the league-lead in goals.
Elders added two more goals to complete the hat trick and to put Orlando on top to stay.
The Seals also had goals in the third from Brad Fedrenko and Stephens. Mark Loza and Chris Cerrella had the other goals for Lakeland.
WHA2 continues to adjust the league schedule as a result of the Miami Manatees not playing at home. The Seals were originally scheduled to play Alabama at home on Sunday, but will instead face the Manatees for a 4:05 p.m. start. The date and start time remain the same as originally scheduled, and fans should use their previously purchased tickets for Sunday's game. Sunday will also be the Renal Dynamics St. Patrick's Day jersey auction where fans can bid on the jerseys right off their favorite player's back.
