Yuma, AZ - Hoping to avoid their second series loss to the Yuma Scorpions this season, the Victoria Seals returned to Desert Sun Stadium for game three on Sunday night. With Javier Ortiz (3-3) taking to the mound for the Scorpions, the Seals responded with Chris Bodishbaugh (2-2) in the series finale.
With both teams going scoreless for the first two frames in the blistering heat, Yuma would put a run on the board first in the bottom of the third. Back-to-back doubles from Adolfo Gomez and Carlos Arroyo gave Yuma just their second lead of the series, a 1-0 advantage. The home side would then double their advantage in the fourth, when two straight singles off the bats of Ismael Castro and Diover Avila made it 2-0 Scorpions on a double play ground ball from Carlos Balcazar.
As the game shifted to the bottom half of the fifth, Yuma would again strike and take control of the contest. After a lead-off error to shortstop Bret LeVier put Deivis Rivadeneira on base, a base hit from Arroyo put runners on the corners. A double to down the base line from cleanup hitter Carlos Villalobos then lifted the Scorpions to a 4-0 lead, before another extra-base hit, this time from Reynaldo Rodriguez, put Yuma up by five.
With starter Ortiz capping off six shutout innings for the Scorpions, thanks to Yuma's fifth double play in the last two games, the Seals continued to search for offense against reliever Dorian Castro. Managing just three base runners in the final three innings, Victoria would again fall victim to closer Emiliano Fruto in the top of the ninth, and fail to score a run for the first time all season. Taking four of six games from the Seals this season, Yuma wins game three by a 5-0 final at Desert Sun Stadium.
Receiving a dominant pitching performance all four hurlers in the game, Yuma gives the win to Javier Ortiz while Chris Bodishbaugh looked strong but suffered his third loss on the season. It was Carlos Arroyo leading the way for the Scorpions once again, finishing 2-for-4 with an RBI on the night.
